Psychology & Everyday Life,
Second Edition Karon Oliver and Louise Ellerby-Jones

This book mirrors the OCR AS level specification where students study psychology "within recognisable everyday situations".

This book is immediately accessible, especially for the younger student. it uses everyday examples of situations that many will be able to appreciate.

The text first introduces us to the scientific method and then divides into six major sections. The first are the everyday situations as described above and how psychology goes about investigating these. The next five sections cover:

Social psychology
Cognitive psychology
Childhood development
Physiological psychology
The psychology of individual differences
Within each are four "core studies" important to that section. These are excellently detailed, and try to convey what it would have been like to have actually been there.

The overview of each area is also good containing enough information to prepare students for the core studies. Throughout Psychology & Everyday Life, the authors bring in other relevant discussions and issues pertinent to psychology. Research methods appropriate to each of the approaches are discussed ensuring that the reader is given all the information necessary to do well in their exams. This book is excellent for anyone studying OCR AS level. I would also recommend it to anyone who has started studying psychology, already has the specific book for their own course, but who is also looking for another book to enhance their understanding of the subject.
